FIESTA PLAINS
(Leymebamba)
I. Dawn
In a copse of trees
on mist-embraced east mountains,
green parrots chatter
& fly away in a cloud
towards chacras of sweet corn.
II. Afternoon
Across the ridges I trek, seeking ancient homes,
the range strung around me, a malachite chain
of pastures & fields, of shadows.
III. Evening
Several hours ago, the sun vanished beyond
the ridge I descended. Now its fading rays
stain feathered clouds o’er those eastern slopes
once more filled with the chatter
of loros returning home.
& near the other horizon, Venus burns
the indigo heaven.
IV. Night
The broad stroke of a comet brushes
starry silk of this moonless dream.
