it was exhilarating upon that ancient battlement

above the Tuscan valley

below the towers of San Gimignano

under the massive stone walls

where weeds now reign

tourists gathered Nikons in hand

where once battle steeds stamped

and siege engines creaked

on that afternoon

the sun brushed gold

upon the the still green autumn leaves

the vendemmia completed

the remaining naked vines

leading upto higher ground

where single towers dotted

our panorama

monetary requirements

called us home

the swaying Tuscan cypresses

silhouetted by the setting Florentine sun

sweet upon our memory

the half remembered days

recorded in kodachromtic brilliance

as if we were there yesterday.
